While being new to this specific page, I've been working on my ancestry on and off for quite some years. I'm more than happy to help anyone, as we all on a journey of learning our roots. Louisiana ancestry is quite challenging! Feel free to email me if there is anything I can help with, I'm more than willing to help.
I'm able to take photos of graves I can locate. I don't mind strolling around and looking, but a lot of the local cemeteries have a lot of unmarked graves or some are just impossible to due to the layout and the risks associated with trying to find a headstone. After breaking my foot in 2023, seeing the condition of the cemeteries, uneven ground and the graves facing directions where you would need to climb on top of a double tomb just to see if there is any markers? Hopefully every volunteer can determine if they can get it done and not be at risk. I'm not willing to go through 6 months of physical therapy again (my foot injury was not in a cemetery, but I can recognize what I am capable of and not capable of).
I will always be on the hunt for my 2x great grandfather's grave and I understand the need to close an ancestors life and have the death date. He was born in 1891-1893, estimated to have married around 1915 in St. Landry parish. Last know residence was in 1940 censes, living outside of Opelousas La in an area called Bellevue. By 1950, my 2x great grandmother is listed as widowed. Everything is mysterious due to the lack of records. I have his social security number and he is not in the SSDI and I cannot locate a death certificate, obituary or anything that would help me to find out when he passed or where he is buried.
With that said, I understand the importance of having a final resting place documented. I will help as much as I can and when I can. I have 4 minor children at home, one was born as late as 2020, plus I take care of my grandmother who is in the late stages of dementia. I see nearby request and I will try to help when available.
