I am primarily a volunteer photographer at Wellwood Cemetery on Long Island, where my wife's family is buried and the adjacent cemetery, Beth Moses. When I visit, I usually go with a list from a specific Block and try to find each photo request. When I locate a requested grave, I try to include nearby family members—especially in family plots.

In all visits I look for US Veterans and Holocaust Survivors and make sure they are listed and photographed!

I also have 2 side projects besides fulfilling Photo Requests.

1. The first is creating cenotaph memorials for Holocaust victims. If a headstone indicates the names of family lost in the Shoah, I try to add a cenotaph memorial for each person. Everyone needs to be remembered in some manner.
2. The second project is researching and finding veterans. When I find a person that appears to have veteran status in their bio or has a military marker, I suggest the change to add the VETERAN button, to give them credit for serving our country. To date I have added over 4,750 vets!. My goal for now is 5,000!

I approach each photo with care and respect, doing my best to capture what's visible without disturbing the site. Some stones are overgrown or partially obscured, but I always aim to preserve and share what's there. I also will update important details in the bio of each memorial I capture.

You're welcome to use any of my photos however you'd like—credit isn't important to me, provided they are not used for financial gain of any sort. Being naive I learned that people use these photos to charge genealogical clients (blah). I simply take the photo, highly edit it so the wording is clear and then delete it from my phone. My goal is simply to make the inscriptions as legible as possible to support genealogical research. I often enhance the images to bring out the text, so the final photo may not reflect the actual condition of the stone. My edits are meant to honor their memory by making the information accessible.

If I come across a grave that isn't listed in FindaGrave, I add it and I become the memorial manager. I am happy to transfer the memorial management responsibilities to a family member following standard FaG guidelines.
