My 3x great-grandfather was born Johann Grüner in Weißdorf, Bavaria, Germany, in 1861. Orphaned by the age of 10, he came to New York City on the SS Eider in 1884.He changed his name to John Greener and married Anna Schmitt in 1889. They had a stillborn son and then two more sons, 5 grandchildren, and now have 15 great-grandchildren, 24 great-great-grandchildren and many great-great-great-grandchildren.
