Inspired by the poem The Dash by Linda Ellis (1996) which tells of that 'dash' on a headstone between their 'birth date' and their 'death date' and what that short dash represents...."the life that person lived". I then came here to create a Memorial for my Dad, Leon Dee Hughes. I'm still here!
This is a collaborative work-in-progress. Most important is the work of the dedicated many who came before me. Searching confounding archival-records (familysearch.org), newspaper articles and yearbooks (texashistory.unt.edu), others traversing cemeteries with bug repellent and a camera (findagrave.com). Photos from dear and close-relatives, as well as very generous extended-relatives all sharing their family albums (ancestry.com). When finished, (Lol!) I hope results will be similar to a virtual afternoon-sit-down-visit with a relative telling you and I of their life. Well okay, I'm already elderly so I hope to accomplish this for a few of them. "You" could do the same and together we could introduce even more of them to us "their people".
On Memorials I manage, if something needs to be corrected, added, or you want to manage your relative's Memorial, tap 'Suggest Edits' on that Memorial page. In the event of my passing I have assigned a person younger than myself as 'Steward' to then carry on management of Memorials currently under my care.
Have an old photo to add? We would LOVE to see it! On their Memorial page tap 'Photos' then '+Add Photos' type the approximate date, location, occasion, 'Courtesy of ' (from whom and from where you acquired it), and your name will appear as 'Added by (your name)'. Only add photos you don't mind other relatives making a 'copy' of, and only of deceased relatives. No matter its' condition (photo-restoration-software will help, and I can 'crop' others from a photo, just email it to me) your photo is very important! "Thank You" for sharing!
On the right of this page tap 'Photos Added' then tap 'Anytime' to locate recent photos. Tap on 'Virtual Cemeteries' to locate surname lineage I'm learning about. While viewing a photo in the viewer, tap 'View Original' for a little clearer version. To leave a virtual-flower, on their Memorial page up in the top header next to 'Photos', tap 'Flowers' then write your message. To view any Flower in it's "original" form, next to 'Photos' tap 'Flowers'. On top area of a Memorial page tap 'View Source' to see who is currently managing the page and their Bio.
"Thank You!" to my cousins 'Jan Jordan-Brown', 'Carolyn Hughes-Wilson' and 'Dustin Hicks' for their tireless work uploading priceless photos....each one of them providing us a visual-connection from a moment in our ancestors' lives.
