St. Magnus Cathedral is the oldest cathedral in Scotland, with construction beginning in 1137, and the most northerly cathedral in the United Kingdom. The founder was Earl Rögnvald Kali Kolsson also known as Saint Ronald of Orkney. The cathedral has its own dungeon where persons accused of witchcraft in Orkney (1594-1708) were held and tried.
