A brief introduction may be in order here.

I'm an ex-pat (expatriate) Brit. The spelling in my missive above might well suggest that.

There are many languages called "English". The differences can be profound and often comical.

Us Brits are a curious lot. Our version of English, our humour, our style of writing differ considerably from much of the rest of the world.

Please bear this in mind if and when you get a dubious communication from a Brit – it's not necessarily being sarcastic or patronising and certainly not rude – it's meant light-heartedly – that's how British humour works. Nothing to get upset about.
