St. Patrick's, Iskaheen is one of the oldest churches in the Derry Diocese still in use. Commanding the most magnificent view of the River Foyle it is situated in the townland of Iskaheen (sometimes called Eskaheen), formerly known by it's Gaelic name "Uisce Caoin" which means "Clear Water", probably referring to the holy wells nearby.
The ancient abbey nearby is believed to date back to the 5th century.
Local historian Brian BONNER, states that this was almost certainly a Columban site though some sources suggest it was Patrician.
The current church dates from 1782 and all visitors are greeted warmly by the locals.
There is good parking close by.
