Commanding the most magnificent view of Lough Foyle, Iskaheen is known in Irish as "Uisce Caoin" which means calm or gentle water. This probably refers to the holy wells which are found nearby.
According to a quatrain in The Annals of the Four Masters, Eoghan, son of Niall of the Nine Hostages, who died in 465, is buried in Iskaheen.
