Southampton's old Public Burying Ground:

Saugeen St. to Southampton (New) Cemetery. Follow the dirt road that skirts the north fence of the new cemetery, tracing the line of the river below.

Just beyond the Roman Catholic Cemetery a right turn leads into Chatham St. Down the slope you will see a bronze plaque inside a fenced square that announces that this is the last resting place of Southampton's pioneers. The carin sits amidst a collection of gravestones, most of which have been vandalised.

The MEMORIAL PARK plaque reads:

"This memorial plot was formed with the gravestones from the derelict cemetery on this site. The stones marked the final resting place of many of the early settlers in the Southampton area who, for the most part, came from Scotland and Ireland."
