Formerly known as Bandera Negro Cemetery, the site had all but disappeared until 1993, when a proposed new burial prompted questions about ownership of the cemetery. The Bandera Cemetery Association and Bandera County Historical Commission undertook to clear the title to the land, and then to clear the land of the cedar, poison ivy and briars that had overtaken it. Restoration work continues on the cemetery, with workers hoping to have it fenced and the graves all marked in the near future. It is estimated that there may be as many as 30 burials here, most of which are unmarked.
