Griais Old Churchyard

Griais (or Gress in English) Old Churchyard lies directly along the B895 road, linking Stornoway to North Tolsta on the east coast of the island of Lewis. After passing through the village of Back, the road passes by a distinctive memorial, consisting of three pillars (not related to the cemetery), then crosses a river. As it rises up the slope, a side-road branches off, immediately parallel to the road, which offers limited car parking.
A metal gate (please shut after passing through) offers access. The ruinous Temple of St Amhlaigh (Olaf) is the church that the graveyard is linked to.
The older graves in the churchyard lie closest to the road, whereas more modern graves are further back.
