Fair Oaks Cemetery began as a Presbyterian burial ground located just east of New Wilmington in Wilmington Township, Lawrence County, Pennsylvania. In about 1812 the local Presbyterians purchased a five-acre lot of land about a mile east of New Wilmington. At that site the Presbyterians built a log cabin to conduct their services.



In 1856 the Presbyterians relocated their church into the village of New Wilmington. The former log cabin church property was retained as a burial site and became known as Fair Oaks Cemetery.
