Wesley Chapel Cemetery
Also known as Camp Ground Church and Graveyard
Ruston, Lincoln Parish, Louisiana, USA
Beautiful historical church and cemetery located on the south side of Ruston. Well documented and all visible (historic) stones have been photographed.
It is unclear the exact origin date of this cemetery and nearby church, as different stories have been told as two when and from whom the original land was donated. It is at least older than August 1854, which is the date of a deed on which the church and graveyard were noted.
Wesley Chapel was originally referred to as "Camp Ground Church and Graveyard" as it originally did not have a building. It was likely changed to "Wesley Chapel" sometime in the 1870s. The oldest marker found in an early cemetery survey was that of an infant "Goodwin" dated as 1859; however, a local resident reported that the infant's grandfather Johnnie Goodwin was buried in the cemetery long before 1859, but that the grave was unmarked.
