The fenced off area to the left of the white arch are the African American burials. This has always been separated by the old chain link fence.

Whitmire is one of the oldest and one of the largest cemeteries in Escambia Co Florida. According to several historians, there are graves dating back to 1830 and Civil War.

Directions: Drive North on S291. Davis Highway, past the University Mall, and just past The West Florida Hospital. The next 4 way turn left onto to Johnson Avenue continue straight through until Johnson rounds to the left into Whitmire Road. This large cemetery can be seen on the left.
