Sylvania Cemetery is located on South Sylvania Avenue on the west side of Interstate 94, south of the intersection with Braun Road. The earliest burials took place in about 1846, and the cemetery was formally incorporated in 1876.


In May 2001, a semi truck drove off the nearby interstate and through a portion of the cemetery, damaging or destroying many of the oldest headstones. Through the efforts of the cemetery board and the donations of a local monument company, the cemetery was restored in 2003.
