GRANDMA CARLSON DIES AT AGE OF 92
Hector's oldest citizen, Mrs Johanna Charlotta Larson, 92, passed away past Thursday, September 2, after a few weeks' illness. She died at the home of her son and daughter-in-law, Mr and Mrs. Gust Carlson, in Hector.
Johanna Charlotta Larson known in this community as "Grandma Carlson", was born September 26, 1844, in the city of Ledkiping, Vastergotland, Sweden. She was married to Carl Larson in 1866. Seven children were born to them: John, still in Sweden; Verne, at Fredrick, Wis; Alex in Minneapolis; and Gust Carlson, here in Hector, three daughters, now dead.
Mr. Larson was 59 when she came with her husband to America. That was in 1903, some time after four other children ahead arrived here.
Mr. and Mrs. Larson came directly to Hector, living for a while with a son-in-law, Mr. and Mrs. Oscar Carlson, south of town.
Mr. Larson died in 1907, and for some time after his death Mrs Larson made rugs with a hand loom for people in and around Hector as a means of livelihood. Of recent years she had been making her home with her children especially with Mr. and Mrs. Gust Carlson.
Mrs. Larson had been exceptionally active in spite of her advanced years. Of late years she has suffered a rheumatic ailment, but otherwise she had been in good health until a few weeks ago, when complications of advanced age became apparent. She passed quietly away last Thursday.
Funeral services were held Monday in the First Lutheran church. Rev Ernest A. Palm officiating. There were numbers by a quartet and Rev. and Mrs. Palm sang a duet. Pall Bearers were William Whitman, Chas. Anderson, Chas. Freberg, Fred Lindgren, Oscar Olson and Alfred M. Nelson.
Persons from out of town attending the rites were Gust Larson, Mr. and Mrs. Axel Johnson and daughter, Margaret. Mrs. Beda Kalberg, Mr. and Mrs. Adolph Westberg, and daughter Gladys, George Skoog, Mr. and Mrs. Axel Carlson and daughters, Evelyn and Ruth, and Louis Carlson, all of Minneapolis; and Mr. and Mrs. Vern Carlson of Fredrick, Wis.
