James Gritman Verity was the son of James Verity and Rebecca Gritman. He married Eunice Banker February 1, 1812 in New York. They had nine children. James died intestate in 1840 leaving minor children who were reared by their older siblings. The story of James Gritman Verity was first told in an autobiography written by his eldest son Oliver B. Verity and published in 1858 in Fulton County, Ohio. His story is retold in the book by Howard James Banker and again by Richard Baldwin in The Verity Family of Long Island, New York.
