William Banker Verity was the fourth of nine children born to James Gritman Verity and Eunice Banker. He moved with his parents to Onondaga County, New York where his mother passed away in 1834 and his father died in 1840. A year later William married Maria Louisa Adams. They continued to live in New York until 1845 when they moved to Michigan taking with them their daughter Eunice Augusta Verity. In 1855, William was elected the first supervisor of St Clair County. He served in the same capacity in 1857 and again 1860-1862 after which he relocated to Kalamazoo County. There, William was a Justice of the Peace and treasurer.

William and his wife Maria had five children: Eunice, James, William, Charlora, and Estelle. Maps of Oshtemo, Kalamazoo County, Michigan show that William owned a farm of ninety-seven acres. His death was reported in the Kalamazoo Gazette on June 30 1872.

"William B. Verity, a respected citizen of Oshtemo, died Thursday afternoon in consequence of a kick received from one of his horses. He had been township Treasurer and Justice of the Peace in his township and was a valuable citizen. His wife died last fall and five children were thus left orphans."
