One of the picture was taken in April 5-8 1865 by Mathew Brady after the city fell on April 3, 1865. The original scrape wood headboards you see were replace with new whitewash headboards in 1866 with the soldiers name rank. company, regiment and state served. Those headboards were rotting away and removed in 1876. The stones you see today were added in 1900's for over 24 years the fields had no markers for graves. The empty field was plowed twice in 1900's do to sunken graves.
