SKOWHEGAN - Clarence J. Bouford, 88, of Skowhegan, died on Friday, June 27, 2014, at his home. He was born in Skowhegan on Dec. 29, 1925, the son of Clarence E. and Anna (Vigue) Bouford. Clarence was educated in Skowhegan schools, a graduate of the class of 1944.
He enlisted in the Navy right out of school in 1943 during World War II. He proudly served in the South Pacific as a motor machinist on a landing craft.
He was employed for many years as a hand sewer by shoe shops in Madison and Skowhegan, a meat cutter at Lessard's Market, and was later employed by Woodlawn Nursing Home.
He was active in the Veterans of Foreign Wars of Skowhegan, the American Legion, the Sportsman Club, Skowhegan and Madison Elks, Eagles Club of Skowhegan, and Christ the King Parish in Skowhegan. Clarence loved being active. He was an avid hunter and fisherman, and took many trips to Newfoundland to go moose hunting. He loved sports, especially following his team, the Red Sox. He always said "It's not over until Big Papi swings."
He was predeceased by his parents, Clarence and Anna Bouford; an infant daughter, Jeannette Bouford; and an infant great-grandson, Braden Lacasse.
He is survived by his wife of 68 years, Rita M. (Leo) Bouford, of Skowhegan; his four children, Jonathan Bouford, and his wife, Jayne, of East Madison, Linda Aguiar, of Biddeford, Brenda Bouford, of Skowhegan, and Kevin Bouford, of Skowhegan; a sister, Jeannette Bouford, of Skowhegan; five grandchildren; six great-grandchildren; one great-great-grandchild; and many nieces, nephews and cousins.
Committal prayers and military honors will be held at Calvary Cemetery in Skowhegan.
The family wishes to thank the doctors and nurses at MaineGeneral Medical Center in Augusta and Redington-Fairview General Hospital for the wonderful care shown toward Clarence during his visits there.
