I use the military rank prefix only for those who died in service or retired with 20 or more years of service. Updated 09/05/25 by US Dept of War: All retired military members are permitted to use their military titles.

TOGUS is not a town in Maine. The Togus Medical Center, Togus Hospital, Togus Hospice, and Togus Springs are all in the town of Chelsea, Maine. (From Wikipedia: "Togus, formally known as the Togus VA Medical Center, is a facility operated by the United States Department of Veterans Affairs in Chelsea, Maine. The facility was built as a resort hotel, and housed Union veterans of the American Civil War prior to being converted to a veterans hospital. It was the first veterans facility developed by the United States government."

NOTE: NONE of the GPS locations on memorials I created have been verified. I am told some methods used to calculate them are wrong and I have no way to check each one.

I will transfer memorials based on the Find A Grave guidelines. "Memorials are transferred for relatives with these close relationships: child, spouse/partner, sibling, parent, grandchild, great-grandchild, grandparent, great-grandparent, niece/nephew, great-niece/nephew, aunt/uncle, great-aunt/uncle, or first cousin. (No great, greats) This would include adoptive, step and in-law versions of these relationships." Other reasonable requests will be considered.

The Served or enlistment/released dates on military memorials come from U.S., Department of Veterans Affairs BIRLS Death File, 1850-2020. A few months ago I noticed that often the 2nd (or 3rd) set of enlistment dates are not shown. National Guard Service is not always shown in the VA files.
