John P. Eck, the son of Peter H Eck and Aganetha Unruh was born 28 Sep 1868 near Ostrog, in the Province of Volhynia. In 1874, during the great migration of Mennonites to America, his family moved to Asia, the Province of Turkestan, where they remained for 10 years.
On 5 Sep 1885 he arrived in America with the family, and settled in McPherson, County with his Uncle Abraham H. Eck. He later moved to Oklahoma when the Cherokee Strip opened to settlers, began his farm, and his parents joined him there.
