Joe Nolen Armstrong, 90, of Carrollton, passed away Wednesday, April 8, 2015, in Frisco, Texas. Visitation will be from 1 to 2 p.m., Wednesday, April 15, 2015, at Corley Funeral Home in Corsicana. Funeral services will immediately follow the visitation at 2 p.m., Wednesday, April 15, 2015, with Dr. Darren Heil officiating. Burial will follow in Oakwood Cemetery in Corsicana.

Joe was born in Navarro, Texas, to the late Jack and Hattie Armstrong. He was a veteran of World War II and received an Asiatic Pacific campaign ribbon with one Bronze Star, a Philippine Liberation ribbon with one Bronze Star, a Victory Ribbon, A Meritorious Unit Award, and an Army of Occupation (Japan) Ribbon as well as two Overseas Service Bars. Joe also earned the title of Light Heavy Weight Boxing Champion while in the Army.

He married Ollene Woods on January 18, 1947, and they spent 60 years together. Joe retired from Halliburton in 1987 after almost 40 years in the oil industry. Joe was a real outdoorsman. He spent much of his free time hunting and fishing with family and friends. He loved spending time with his family and will be remembered with love and fondness in each ones heart.

He was preceded in death by his wife, Ollene; son, Nolen; sister, Evelyn; and brother, Charles.

Survivors include his daughter-in-law, Cheri Armstrong, of The Colony; grandsons, Jeff and Brad Armstron,g of The Colony; and several great-grandchildren, nieces, and nephews.
