William Clinton Anderson, my great grandfather, ran a shoe repair shop in Cooper, Texas across from the Delta Supermarket to the side of Miller Drugstore. (Shoes were made to last back then.) Paradoxically, he only had one leg. Catching his boot on barbed wire fencing as a 16 year old, the injury to his leg led to amputation up to the hip and he used crutches. That never slowed him down. A brother in law and nephew Samuel Calvin Burkett and his child, Joseph Clinton Burkett moved to Texas and lived with W.C. and wife Mary as shown in the 1900 and 1910 US Census records. By 1930, C.W. was living with his son George Anderson, wife and children. By the 1940s he was living in a small house in Tira, Tx built by son Galen on the same property owned by Galen and Audrey Anderson. That property is still in the Anderson family. When Galen became ill and died of cancer, W.C. moved near Dallas and lived with his nephew Joe Burkett and passed just a little over a year later. He is buried with wife Mary Tarter Anderson in the Simmons Cemetery Ben Franklin, Texas.
