John Beck 1779-1855 was the son of (John) George Beck and at this time an unknown mother . Johns father was born September 21, 1753, in Lehigh Township, Northampton Co., Pa., lived in Westmoreland County in 1783 and died December 1, 1836 in Beaver Township, Clarion County, Pa. George's wife was possibly Catherine Elizabeth Holsopple.

By Rich Cyphert, native of Knox Pa. ,I'm the 4th and 5th Grandson of John Beck and 3rd and 4th of John Andrew Beck.Story compiled through many hours of research.

John and Susan lived in Armstrong county near Eddyville Pa. They moved the Family to Beaver township around 1831 which was still part of Armstrong county. Clarion county was not formed untill 1839 .They settled a tract of land to farm just south of Edenburg Pa. which is now the town of Knox .On the farm John operated a general store and a gunsmith shop. When John died in 1855 he was buried at the edge of his property in McElhatten cemetery which was a family plot for the adjacent farmland operated by the McElhatten family along Popetown road . the burial place of his wife Susan Shall Beck is unknown. There is no marker for Susan. She may be there but lost to time since Johns is sunken. about 8 inches of it remains above ground. John Andrew took over Beck farm after his fathers death. During the 1870s after the oil boom, the first successful oil well named Kribbs well was struck on this land .John Andrew died in 1899 and was interred in Knox union cemetery.
