OBITUARY:
McCurdy – Zilpah McCurdy, wife of William McCurdy, in Liberty Township, Crawford county, O., October 4th, 1877, aged 63 years, one months and 12 days.
Mother McCurdy was the daughter of Rev. Wm. Matthews, an old pioneer in the Presbyterian Church. She was married to William McCurdy in 1835, and was converted and united with the Presbyterian Church in 1842, where she remained until about twenty-five years ago when she and her husband joined the United Brethren Church, where she remained one of the most earnest and faithful Christians until God took her.
Her brethren say that if Mother McCurdy was not at church, the family needed to be visited , for someone was sick.
She was the mother of twelve children, six of whom survive her, one being Rev. W. W. McCurdy of the Sandusky Conference.
Mother McCurdy's last illness was protracted and severe; but she was composed and was often found praying for grace to be patient. A favorite expression with her was "I am resting on the rock" and this was among the last thing she uttered.
The funeral services were conducted by Rev. S. H. Raudebaugh, of the United Brethren Chucrch.
NOTE:
Zilpha is my Mom's Maternal Greatgrandmother. Her son, Joseph Donald McCurdy was my Mom's Maternal Grandfather.
