Evelyn Conger and Robert Cain Wed at Home Ceremony (Ottumwa Courier Oct 1950)
Miss Evelyn Adine Conger, daughter of Mr. and Mrs. Calvin M. Conger, 120 North Fellows Avenue, became the bride of Robert Cain, Jr., son of the senior Mr. and Mrs. Cain, 126 South Adelia street, Saturday, October 14.
The ceremony too place at 3 p.m. in the home of the bride's aunts, Miss Ellen and Miss Astrid Peterson, 916 Hackberry street, , read the double ring service in a candle lighted setting of ferns and baskets of white mums and carnations in the living room of the Peterson home.
Miss Conger chose for her marriage a street-length frock of brown taffeta with which she wore matching accessories and a corsage of cream colored roses. Mrs. Alfred Hoecke, the bridegroom's sister, wearing a blue wool dress with a corsage of white carnations, attended as matron of honor. Mr. Hoecke served as best man.
Mrs. Conger wore a black crepe dress and Mrs. Cain chose a navy blue plisse crepe. Both wore corsages of white pompoms.
A reception followed the ceremony with a two-tier cake in pastel green and yellow, centering the serving table. Mr. and Mrs. Cain are to make their home at 120 North Fellows avenue, Ottumwa, where he is associated with his father in the floor sanding business.
Guests from out of town for the wedding were Mr. and Mrs. Hoecke of Davenport; Mrs. Matt Peterson and Dorothy and Miss Dorothy Jo Hill of Des Moines.

He is survivored by his wife, Evelyn; three daughters, Adine Gray of Independence, LuAnn Beck of Oelwein and Ivola Hibben of Mason City; three sons, Calvin of Shawnee, Kan., John and Bryan both of Independence; 12 grandchildren; and a brother, Homer of Independence; and one nephew, Eugene Cain Jr., Davenport.
He was preceded in death by his parents, one brother, one sister, and one daughter, Charlene Cain.
He was born June 21, 1929, in Ottumwa, the son of Robert Emmett and Margaret Ann Chandler Cain. He married Evelyn Adine Conger, Oct. 14, 1950, in Ottumwa. Before his retirement in 1983, he was employed by the Illinois Central - Gulf Railroad.
He was a member of the Cornerstone Four Square Church in Independence, Alcoholics Victorious, the Brotherhood of Maintenance of Way Employees and the Full Gospel Businessmens Fellowship (at the time of his death, he was secretary of the Winthrop chapter.)

Robert E. Cain, 63, of Independence, died Wednesday, Oct 14,at his home.He was born June 21, 1929, in Ottumwa, the son of Robert Emmett and Margaret Ann Chandler Cain. He married Evelyn Adine Conger, Oct. 14, 1950, in Ottumwa. Before his retirement in 1983, he was employed by the Illinois Central - Gulf Railroad.
He was a member of the Cornerstone Four Square Church in Independence, Alcoholics Victorious, the Brotherhood of Maintenance of Way Employees and the Full Gospel Businessmens Fellowship. At the time of his death, Cain was secretary of the Winthrop chapter.
He is survived by his wife, Evelyn; three daughters, Adine Gray of Independence, LuAnn Beck of Oelwein and Ivola Hibben of Mason City; three sons, Calvin of Shawnee, Kan., John and Bryan both of Independence; 12 grandchildren; and a brother, Homer of Independence; and one nephew, Eugene Cain Jr., Davenport.

Music provided by Ernest Bell, organist, and Mrs. Larry Wright and Robert Higdon, vocalists. Honorary casket bearers were Willard Brunko, Don Haisch, Steve Gibbs and Clark Slessor. Casket bearers were Kenneth Palmer, Larry Wright, Jr., John Seda, John Althaus, Edwin Holst and Jack Hilton. Burial was in Mt. Hope Cemetery in Independence.
