Albert James Reed Jr was known in his younger years as Jr. In adulthood he was known as as Jim. He was born 31 July 1917 at home on the farm in the Dinas community of Harrison Township, Wallace County, Kansas. He was the youngest son of Albert James Reed, Sr. and Mary Augusta Beal Reed. Jim grew up in Wallace County and during high school worked part-time as a shoeshine boy in the barbershop operated by Volney Borst. Under the supervision of Mr. Borst, he became an apprentice, barber and learned the art of cutting hair. He moved to Chicago where he worked for the railroad for a short time.

Jim joined the arm services and fought for his country during World War II. He was in the Signal Corp. and was discharged with the rank of captain after having spent many months in the European theater of command.

On 26 June 1948 at Baton Rouge, Louisiana he married René Lee Gammill, the daughter of Aaron David, Gammill and Eva Seale Gammill. His wife René was born 27 November 1919 at Meadville, Mississippi.

Jim and Renée made their home in Fayette, Mississippi where they operated a business. His favorite hobbies were hunting and fishing.

On 29 July 1953 was born a daughter Kathy Lee Reed. She sadly died that same year on 29 October 1953. She is buried in the same cemetery that her parents are buried in.

Jim died 30th June 1984, a victim of cancer and is buried in Fayette, Mississippi.
