Taken in 2005 at the Edmonton, Alberta, Canada Legislative Buildings.

"The Famous Five Statues"

Louise (nee Crummy) McKinney
b. 22-Sep-1868 in Frankville, Ontario
d. 10-Jul-1931 in Claresholm, Alberta

She was instrumental in gaining the right to vote for woman in Alberta in 1916. In 1917 she was the first woman elected to a legislature in the British Empire (as a Non-Partisan) She was an active Women's Christian Temperance Union (WCTU) worker and served as Acting President of the Canadian WCTU & First Vice President of the World WCTU. She was also the only woman from Western Canada to sign the Basis of Union for the United Church of Canada. She died suddenly in 1931 in Claresholm, Alberta.

McKinney called on woman "to dream big and act honourably" and "make the best possible contribution to the generation in which she is living."

She shares a grave marker with her husband - her side reads "Mother" Louise.
