The celebrated case of Joseph Strean vs. Chambers, again came up on last Tuesday. Judge Hughes having been ?? in the case, with the consent of parties appointed Mr. Cooper, of New Albany, as Judge, pro tem.
(this part not transcribed.)
This case has been in Court for several years -- two trials have been had, and an immense amount of cost has accrued. The cause of action is an alleged deprivation of riparian rights by the defendant's constructing a mill dam on Clear creek.
On the 1850 Cler Creek, IN census, I found married farmer Joseph Strean, 66; Elenor Strean, 50, born in Ireland (N. Ireland was not named until later), has $5500 in real estate; Elizabeth Strean, 20, PA; farmer Andrew J Strean, 18, OH; attend school: Alexander Strean, 16, OH; David Strean, 14, OH; William Strean, 10, IN; Martha J Strean, 8, IN and George M Strean, 6, IN born.
