Funeral services to celebrate Pastor Easterling's life will be held at 10 am Monday, March 26, 2007 in the Chapel of Graceland/Fairlawn Funeral Home. Visitation will be held from 3 to 5 Sunday afternoon in the funeral home. Interment with the "Flight Home" Ceremony will be in Graceland Cemetery.
Wayne was born on July 18, 1918 in Hettinger, ND, a son of Robert D. and Clara E. (Clark) Easterling. He served his country in the Navy during WW II and he was a survivor of the USS Rowan and he was awarded the Purple Heart. He owned and operated Easterling Optical before becoming a pastor. Pastor Easterling served churches for over 30 years, retiring from First Wesleyan Church in Decatur. He and his wife were once active members of the Temple Baptist Church in Decatur. Pastor Easterling served on the Christian Businessmen's Committee, Child Evangelism Committee, Youth for Christ, Macon County Jail Ministry and while in the Chicago area served as a counselor for Pacific Garden Mission. He married Ruth J. Hughes on August 10, 1940 in St. Charles, MO.
Surviving are his wife of over 66 years, daughter, Linda Pence and her husband Steven of Ellicott, CO., sons, Stephen Easterling and his wife Linda of Aurora and Gregory Easterling and his wife Ruth of Elk Grove Village, brother, David Easterling and his wife Eloise, granchildren, Stephanie, Justen, Nathan, Paul, Daniel, David, Matthew, Jeffrey and Taylor Joy, great-grandchildren, Evan and Alexander.
He was preceded in death by his parents, daughter, Joy, four brothers, Donald, Dean, Glenn and Jack and a sister, Betty Smeltzer.
