Bill was born on September 17, 1922 to Emil and Ina Hoffman in Bemidgi, Minnesota as the second of 9 children.
He moved to Seattle in 1940 after spending 2 years in the Civilian Conservation Corps and began work for United Airline as a mechanic While at United, Bill met his one love, Jeanne Rehman, and they wwere married on January 5th, 1943 after a whirlwind three month courtship.
He joined the Army later that year where, due to complications from a tonsillectomy, he was separated from his company which ultimately was part of the force to land at Normandy.
Instead, Bill spent his war years sharpening his mechanics skills on tanks and other heavy equipment. After his Army service, Bill returned home to his wife and newborn son. Over the coming years Bill and Jeanne grew their family to 4 children. Bill spent nearly 40 years at United Airlines and retired as a foreman of aircraft maintenance in 1978 shortly from major surgery.
In their 29 years of retirement Bill and Jeanne spent many joyous years traveling across the country in their pick-up and camper visitingjust about every state in the union. Bill loved his hunting and fishing-especially his salmon fishing. Bill was probably never more at home nor happier than he was teaching his kids and grandkids to fish on his small boat off the coast of Neah Bay with his pole in one hand, one Jeanne's roast beef sandwiches in the other and a hot cup of coffee nearby.
Bill's living legacy includes 4 children, Bill, Carolyn, Mark, and Tracy; 11 grandchildren, 2 great grandchildren and more friends and loved ones than can be enumerated here.
Bill was a long-time member of Saint Francis of Assisi Catholic Church in Burien and a frequent visitor of Huckleberry Square.
