I am a Pittsburg, Ks. native, born and raised but have spent the past 40 years in the KC area. I came across the FAG site while googling for cemetery records and was hooked. It has been such a blessing to me as my relatives are all buried in Pittsburg and I don't get home as often as I'd like to place flowers on their graves. Also my grief for my baby, C.J. Hopper, who was stillborn in 1972 and whose body was taken from me by the hospital staff, never to be accounted for, has been assuaged by my ability to have a "gravesite" to visit for him. This has brought me the peace I'd longed for all these years. Rest in peace until I join you, my sweet baby. You were never forgotten.
Please visit the grave of my childhood best friend, Elmotie Scroggins, Jr., a Vietnam Vet who was killed by a drunk driver, whose punishment was a $15 DWI ticket. Elmotie was black, the driver was white, the son of an "influential" white family, and when Elmotie's mother tried to press charges, she was advised to let it rest if she valued her little girls. The injustice of it all still haunts me, even after over 34 yrs. have passed. No matter who my date was, for six years of proms and homecoming dances, they knew the last dance was always saved for my best friend, Elmotie. Since I first heard he'd passed away, wherever I might be, when the last dance music is played, I sit that one out. Until the day we are reunited, I will save that last dance for him...
