I hope to be remembered for my work here. The years spent trying to help others from our past be remembered.

I consider my "roots" are from East Tennessee and Bell County, KY. Many in my direct line moved to Monroe, MI as early as 1923 and that is where our line also starts to include the State of Michigan. My parents/families moved from the South to Monroe, MI in the 50s, as many were doing at that time. My parents met there, married and moved to the Grand Haven area, where they bought a forty acre farm about 1960. They stayed 17 years, then moved back South.

I chose to come back. My direct line will continue nearby.

The 1990s the internet/web became available and became a boom for genealogists. I started off with a webtv to do as much as possible to preserve our families past. Miller/Cox/Brogan/Parks and Traxler.

I chose Find-a-grave for it being a free site for all to share together. I have put years of work here.

For decades, I gathered old family photos and stories ; before those who could share them were gone and we lost forever these personal accounts and photos. So many gone now. They gave priceless treasures in old photos and stories. The old photographs of people. A captured moment in time.

Sad to realize that most of my immediate line will have little ties with the areas of my childhood of TN and Monroe, MI, but those ties are preserved here.

The Old Cemetery 

I love to walk the cemetery 

in shafts of golden light

I feel a sense of comfort there

no sense of any fright

There are only memories there

of those who've gone ahead

Someone loved these people

and grieved when they were dead

I like to read the cold, grey stones

engraved with loving care

As for the very old ones

who put flowers there?

I have at times cleaned off a grave

and left a flower behind

and once I'm gone perhaps someone

will take such care of mine
