I was born and raised in Salida, Colorado. Both sides of my family have been in this area since the early 1900's. I have many memorial pages in the Chaffee County area that I'm trying to add information to. If you have any, please feel free to send.

I find the information that I add from sites like ancestry.com and newspapers.com. I do my best to add accurate information. Some memorials have no information to add, which I find sad.

I wish that every state would post their death certificates. At least before 1950. That was 75 years ago. I doubt any close relatives are still alive. I try to find those who died of Spanish influenza. It's very difficult without death certificates. Some obits from that time period will state if they were Spanish influenza victims but many don't talk about cause of death.

I would rather transcribe an obituary than have the article posted to the page, especially if it's difficult to read. However, I'm 56. I know that I can't possibly transcribe all obituaries. So unless they are really difficult to read, I have just let it be. Which drives me crazy, but it's better to have the obituary on the memorial page instead of me running out of time/life & not getting it on there at all. If I do post a news article on a memorial page that you manage and you would like it written instead, please just let me know & the number of the memorial page. I add obits from all decades. If they didn't want people knowing they wouldn't have put it in the newspaper in the first place. Just my opinion.

Epitaphs: PLEASE write them as they are on the tombstone. Including using CAPITALS. Write military information as it is on the tombstone. Don't abbreviate things on your own. If it states "WORLD WAR II," don't put "WWII," etc.

If you are not adding the obituaries that I send WHY NOT? Who else will post them? People need to be remembered.

I am not opposed to putting periods after initials, but I think it makes it look messy for some weird reason.

When adding a news article/obituary, please make sure to add the newspaper information. Name, City, State, Date.

I add information to graves in ALL states as I find them.

I'm still trying to "fix" all of the memorial pages that I acquired when I first started this. I used want recognition for the obits I sent or for adding information to the memorial pages I manage. (EYE ROLL). This is about the person who is no longer here. It's not about us. It will take me quite awhile to find & "fix" them all. When you give someone credit for sending information, it looks "messy" on the memorial page.

I add census information only to show children. Many people used to have 10+ children. I just want to show their names & ages so others will know to look for these people on FG & link them to their families. It drives me crazy when people just copy & paste census information.

I can no longer "walk the cemeteries" which is very sad to me. Its something that I loved doing. So now I research & add.

I leave "flowers" on every memorial that I add information to. I also add flowers to random memorials. It doesn't mean I know the person.

***If you volunteer on this website and decide you no longer want to maintain the memorials please transfer your memorials to someone who has an active account and willing to take over the memorials. I am one of many willing to take over memorials. This really will help reduce dupicates. It would also be a good idea to leave someone instructions on how to make these transfers should you go inactive without warning.
