I enjoy doing this and adding loved ones to my friends' lists, as well as connecting families. I have been working on both sides of my father's, my mother's family, and my stepdad's family...West, Hurt, Brock, Rhea, Lyttaker, etc.

On Facebook, I'm the admin of my hometown, Abingdon, IL, Memorial Room. I try to add everyone who has some connection to Abingdon. I have found and added numerous former classmates and friends from my hometown. Many notify me as soon as they lose someone so that I can get their memorial started before a total stranger does it. I appreciate all the help that some of you have given me.

Many of us understand that losing a loved one does not always mean they are blood-related to us. To the ones who transfer memorials to me, thank you. Unlike some, I am not here for just the "numbers". I work many hours adding obituaries to older memorials that have never been completed, which helps connect family members. I try to be a little kind to others and expect the same in return. When you feel something is wrong or if there is a problem, please be kind and send a message instead of reporting. If your messages are disabled, do not send me a message; you will be ignored. Thank you!

I do not understand WHY obits are not always used/included on memorials. Obituaries are public records, and families pay an outrageous amount of money for an obituary with living family members listed in it. If they wanted the family names to be unknown, they would not mention them in the obituary. Families have the stones engraved with the name or names of people who are still living, so why the complaints on this site? I have connected thousands of families just using the obituary that the family paid for. I have many, many people personally thank you for adding their family obits and connecting other families. Many people use this site for genealogy purposes. It helps if families are connected! Also, just for the record, if an edit is approved by Find A Grave and the obituary has been added, they post it as they should be included. Additionally, draft records are not entirely accurate; my father's middle name was incorrectly listed, and my grandfather used his nickname.

Sadly, other members feel the need to contact FG regarding other members' memorials. If you have that much spare time on your hands, maybe you should find a new hobby! IF you have the time to make a new memorial, if you see one that is listed in the wrong cemetery, or the person was cremated and buried later, use common courtesy and suggest a change.
