I STRONGLY encourage you to request a memorial transfer for any family members or close friends.

I have over 15,000 memorials I'm trying to manage and it's too much! I'm not going to be a stickler about if you are closely related enough. If it's your best friend, you obviously know them better than I do. I'm happy to let you manage their memorial.

When suggesting edits, remember that records and obits, even new ones, are not 100% accurate. My own grandfather's obituary excludes my dad and our family. My grandmother's obit from just a few years ago has an error in my cousin's name. My other grandparents' names are completely mutilated in census records on Ancestry because the transcriber couldn't read the handwriting. So, due to typos, family drama, or other issues, you can't take the information in it as gospel. Be careful about making a change just because of one record or obit.

Also, I kindly ask that you not expect me to provide additional information, updates, etc. Unless they are marked as a relative of mine, I have no information that is not already on the memorial. I uploaded these memorials so that people could find their loved ones. I am not a professional genealogist.

Please make sure you have the correct person before sending edits. I created a memorial for someone born in the 1800s, someone snuck in a correction that was auto-processed changing the date to about 50 years later, then someone else said it was a duplicate and my memorial was deleted. It was simply a common name and there were two people with the same name. Now the memorial for the first person is gone. If you think the name, date, cemetery, etc. is noticeably wrong, it's probably a different person. Just message me if you aren't sure.

PLEASE, PLEASE, PLEASE use the features under the edit tab to submit updates to memorials. I receive dozens, if not hundreds, of updates each month and don't have time to manually edit them all. MAKE SURE in your edit that you do not remove valid information. If I have birthdate unknown, death date May 2, 1953 and your edit is for birthdate 1902, death date 1953, it will remove the May 2. To avoid losing valid data, I will have to decline the edit. Also, be sure your information is correct. Do not assume that I have the dates completely wrong, when you are actually looking at John Doe, Sr. and my memorial is for John Doe, Jr. DO NOT MAKE ASSUMPTIONS, PLEASE!

FOR RESEARCH / GENEALOGISTS: You can search the cemetery records at https://maps.huntsvilleal.gov/cemetery/ . The older records are unfortunately incomplete so just because someone is not listed doesn't mean they aren't there. Old Huntsville Magazine's website also contains some records of Maple Hill cemetery at http://www.oldhuntsville.com/Cemeteries/Maple_Hill/Maple_HillList.asp. There you may be able to find things like cause of death. Finally, the Huntsville-Madison County Public Library has a lot of online genealogical and Historical Huntsville records available at http://hmcpl.org/. Good luck in your search!
