Pte. = New Zealand, Australian, British Troops

Pvt. = American Troops

Military enlistment documents often recorded incorrect dates of birth. Sometimes it was a deliberate misrepresentation of true age by the recruit to guarantee acceptance; sometimes because the recruit did not know his exact date of birth. As such, military enlistment documents should not be taken as an absolute reliable source.
