I am a former law enforcement officer and private investigator. One of my greatest joys is resesarching and trying to find all the pieces to the "puzzle". I have been doing genealogy research for over 25 years. I spend numerous hours a week researching. Computers and websites have helped, but I still prefer doing things the old fashioned way. I rely on paper records and documents to confirm my findings.
When I am not working on my family trees, I enjoy searching old deaths on newspapers.com and either creating memorials or adding additional details to existing memorials and connecting them to other family members because everyone deserves to be remembered.

Created/Managed Memorials I will add census records, including death certificates, along with other records that I find on any memorial that I create or manage because some people may not have access to the genealogy websites. I also use many other websites that others may not be aware of. I will do anything I can to help anyone with their search. If there is not any information on a memorial that I manage, it is because I am not able to verify the information or I am currently behind.

Last Names I do add all surnames, if known, for women who have been married more than once. There are instances when someone may not know the current last name but may know a previous married name. A lot of memorial creators/managers will not do this stating that the names are not searchable but that is incorrect. Per FindaGrave: When a person is buried with one spouse and other married surnames are not on the headstone, can I add the other married surnames to the last name field? Our Memorial Search will search all surnames in the last name field. Yes, you can add all married surnames in the surname field.

Obituaries When available, I will include obituaries. They hold such valuable information for those of us researching our history. If it is a more recent death, I will omit the names of living relatives to protect their privacy and abide by the rules set forth by FindaGrave unless I have permission from the family to post their names.

I don't require that anyone give me credit for a photo that I have posted but do ask that you consider it. This helps anyone who may be curious to know where the photo originated and if someone has questions or just wants to reach out, they know who to contact.

Transfers I am more than willing to transfer a memorial unless it is one of my family members. Some will not transfer a memorial unless the person is a "close" relative. I am the only one in my family who researches our family history and although I may not be a "close" relative, I enjoy managing the memorials in my family tree. So, please do not hesitate to ask for a transfer. All I ask is that it is maintained and that you are responsive to those who may reach out to you. (There is nothing more aggravating that to suggest an edit or reach out to the creator or manager of a memorial and never get a response or have all your hard work ignored).

Be Respectful I have sent messages to members and their response has just been down right rude. We are all volunteers and interested in the same things whether genealogy, cemeteries or research. Without volunteers this site would not be where it is today. We all have to work together. It floors me at some of the profiles that members create and the nasty attitudes they portray. If you can't take pleasure in the volunteer work that you are doing and have a bad attitude, why are you doing it? Be nice. Be helpful.

WE ARE THE CHOSEN
We are the chosen. In each family, there is one who seems called to find the ancestors. To put flesh on their bones and make them live again, to tell the family story, and to feel that somehow they know and approve. Doing genealogy is not a cold gathering of facts but, instead, breathing life into all who have gone before. We are the storytellers of the tribe. All tribes have one. We have been called, as it were, by our genes. Those who have gone before cry out to us, "Tell our story!" So, we do. In finding them, we somehow find ourselves. How many graves have I stood before now and cried? I have lost count. How many times have I told the ancestors, "You have a wonderful family; you would be proud of us." How many times have I walked up to a grave and felt somehow there was love there for me? I cannot say. It goes beyond just documenting facts. It goes to who am I and why do I do the things I do. It goes to seeing a cemetery about to be lost forever to weeds and indifference and saying, "I can't let this happen." The bones here are bones of my bone and flesh of my flesh. It goes to doing something about it. It goes to pride in what our ancestors were able to accomplish, how they contributed to what we are today. It goes to respecting their hardships and losses, they're never giving in or giving up, their resoluteness to go on and build a life for their family. It goes to deep pride that the fathers fought and some died to make and keep us a Nation. It goes to a deep and immense understanding that they were doing it for us. It is of equal pride and love that our mothers struggled to give us birth. Without them, we could not exist, and so we love each one, as far back as we can reach. That we might be born who we are. That we might remember them. So we do. With love and caring and scribing each fact of their existence, because we are they and they are the sums of who we are. So, as a scribe called, I tell the story of my family. It is up to that one called in the next generation to answer the call and take my place in the long line of family storytellers. That is why I do my family genealogy, and that is what calls those young and old to step up and restore the memory or greet those whom we had never known before.
