My Dad (Clive Thomas) was the Grave Digger and Caretaker on the Wellington Council for 30 years. He looked after, not just the Holy Family, Lawn and Old cemeteries in Wellington, but was also in charge of many smaller village cemeteries in the council area. These included - Stuart Town, Euchareena, Spicers Creek, Elong, Geurie, Yeoval, and Curra Creek. He always loved helping people find their loved ones when they rang or came knocking on our door.
We lost Dad in June 2023, so as a legacy to him, I'm helping people find graves and I'm enjoying it as much as he did.
I'm happy to drive the short distance to the General Cemetery, but just as willing to go the extra mile to the neighbouring towns to complete a request.
While walking around I often wonder what happened to these people, especially if the person was young. Every death is tragic but I can't imagine how families cope when they lose a child.
