My new favorite saying, Sometimes the people you wanted as part of your story are only meant to be a chapter.

Please Note: I have taken on many memorials from people that are no longer active. I am finding that in many cases there is no information found to add or confirm. If you have such information please send through the edit on the memorial, not here.

DO NOT send us edits solely from family trees you find online. In many cases the sources are not substantiated and can be wrong. Case in point recently we got numerous edits for one of our memorials, it was clear that all the information was taken from a family tree on Ancestry and several edits would have put incorrect information on a memorial. If you are going to send an edit, make sure to source the information, it helps save time.

Rank is only added to a memorial if the person died in the service of our country, or any country, or they retired from military service. There is a place to note a person as a veteran.

An American flag next to a headstone does not necessarily the person served in the military. Flags get dislodged from their original place and sometimes get put back on the nearest person. Of course, it doesn't mean that they didn't serve but another source is necessary in my opinion.

I see no purpose of adding Mrs. to a name if the maiden name and married name are listed and or the person is linked to the parents and/or spouse.

Photo Volunteers: We appreciate you taking the time to go to the cemeteries, find and photograph people's final resting places and their marker, but all too often the photo has people, pets, cars etc. in the photo which ruins the photo in our opinion. Also don't add names on top of the photos, arrows etc. it also ruins the photo, there is a place under the photo to add who is in the photo or where and when the photo was taken, or the location, which can go in the plot section on the memorial. When taking a headstone photo and the etching is faint it would be helpful if the information on the headstone is transcribed.

I recently received memorials from two deceased friends. Please be patient as I have been getting an abundance of edits and I am trying to get to them each day as time allows.

We don't mind you using photos we have put up but it is frustrating to see them come up as being put up by someone other than us. They are our family photos, using them is one thing taking credit for them is another.

General photo rules clearly state "No animated GIFs, photos with additional graphics (borders, embellishments.)" That means adding your name, location of the grave, arrows etc. Also, I am seeing chalk being used to enhance the writing on the headstone, that too should never be done.

PLEASE Don't ever put our name and or volunteer number as a source of who you got information from. We always source information such as a newspaper with dates, Draft Registration, Birth, Marriage, Death records etc. This is not about the volunteers in my opinion; it is about the person on the memorial. That said I understand there are some that need recognition and I will post names when requested and give credit where credit is due but volunteers that need recognition may not quite get the reason why we are here.

Genealogy is a passion. I first became interested in family history after my mom died at the age of 51 and I realized I knew little about either side of my family. I found a single piece of paper which was all that had been documented about my heritage. It did however claim I was related to General Sherman and Alexander Graham Bell, the latter I have yet to prove. It also said I had a relative that owned a circus, with help from so many this has proven to be true, many of my Sherman family worked for the Sherman Circus and my gg uncle owned it. All Sherman's are of interest to me. Each piece of the puzzle peaked my interest more. I research every day sometimes my family more often others, all fascinating. Bill became interested soon after when we found so much new information about his family through our research. Together we document our families, and other families as well, along with cemeteries, which can net a lot of information and can be lost to time if the information isn't documented.
