I am in this to help other people. Linking family members together is something I love to do. However, the more work I do here, the more rude people I encounter. I will not dialogue with you if your tone or verbiage is disrespectful. Please treat me, and everyone you meet, with respect and kindness.

A WORD ABOUT NICKNAMES: Natural derivatives of names (first or last), such as "Bob" for "Robert," "Tom" for "Thomas, "Jack" for "John," "Becky" for "Rebecca," and the like will not be added to the mainline of the memorial. Very likely, this already appears in the obituary and need not be repeated. If it's not in the obituary, it tells me that neither the family nor the person wanted it to be included. Nicknames used only by certain people, such as "Grammy" will not be added. Other nicknames, such as "Stinky" for a child who died of cancer, or "Rocket Girl" for a premature infant are in poor taste and will also not be added. HOWEVER, nicknames such as "Jane" for "Esther Sue" WILL be added to aid in locating the person. Chances are, if I haven't added the nickname already in the obituary, it was purposeful, and I'm not going to add it after you send me an edit. I have it in writing from Find A Grave that addition of nicknames is not a requirement, and that the proprietor of a memorial is entitled to manage that memorial as he/she sees fit. I will not be bullied into modifying a memorial just because "you" tell me that I should.

PLACE OF DEATH - I will reject your edit for "place of death" if you echo the obituary in telling me where the person lived (ie, "Jane Brown, of Smithville, died on . . . "). Just because they lived there does not mean that they died there. Please, either tell me that you're certain when you submit the edit, or supply proof.

PLACE OF BIRTH - Similarly, you edit will be rejected if you echo the obituary telling me where the parents lived or where the person was raised. This does not mean that this same place is where the person was born. Please supply proof when asked.

ADDING OBITUARIES AS BIOGRAPHIES - I will reject your edit if you're sending me the exact same obituary that already exists in the memorial. Sending an edit that's an exact duplicate of what's already there is a waste of everyone's time. If you have an obituary with additions or subtractions, please let me know.

MARRIAGE YEAR - Proof is going to be required. You can't just subtract the number of years married from the person's death date and be 100% correct. Please submit LEGAL PROOF unless it's mentioned in the obituary.

It is to be understood that the funeral home website is used as the source of the obituary unless otherwise noted.

PROOFS: I may ask for proof of things you submit. Please don't take this personally. Accuracy is what we're all about, right?

MANY of you are great to deal with, but a few of you are downright rude. You are the ones who give this site a bad name. You know who you are: the keyboard warriors/self-appointed memorial police who target memorials and bully other members unendingly because you need everyone to bend to your will. You insist that everyone's memorials be done exactly YOUR way. I'm tired of folks here rudely demanding that I manage my memorials according to their own set of standards, regardless of the rules set forth by Find A Grave. You pester people over and over to make an edit they've declined multiple times, complete with an explanation. This is considered to be harassment, and appropriate measures will be taken. In essence - if someone else is managing the memorial, it's THEIR memorial to manage, NOT YOURS.
