I'm a Jewish genealogist in the Maritime provinces and the founder of a future Jewish Heritage Museum. I am also a volunteer with my local Chevra Kadisha (Jewish burial society). I am a contributor to JewishGen, having uploaded the information for several cemeteries which I maintain regularly. This information is the hard work of volunteers. Please do not steal others' work from JewishGen so you can "collect" Jewish burials by mass adding the information from there onto here.

My goal, other than my own family research, is to ensure that our Jewish cemeteries in the Maritimes (along with Toronto and Montreal) are accurately documented, both here and elsewhere. As all Jews know, we are all connected, especially our communities from Montreal and Toronto to the Maritimes.

Obituaries used are available publicly online. Should a family member wish to edit or remove something from a memorial, simply let me know but realize that as soon as something is published online, it's online forever. Many members of this site include obituaries. Please do not message me telling me to remove an obituary from a memorial that you have no ties to.

Census records provide valuable information but are not always accurate. Please understand that birth places, name spellings and even birth dates are often incorrect on a census. I will usually decline an edit where the census is the only source of information.

Divorced couples: I will not add divorced couples to each other's memorials. Many times divorces are contentious and I will not tie people together in death that did not wish to be together in life.

A note about Jewish memorials: Inscriptions are vital. If someone takes the time to transcribe an inscription, do not decline that edit, that section is there for a reason and in addition to translations, many people use screen readers so having the inscription typed out is helpful to them. When taking photographs of Jewish headstones, please ensure that your photo is clear and please make sure you're not submitting a tiny image that can't be read. Being able to read the Hebrew on a stone is very important.

I am always happy to answer questions and help out others and pay forward the kindness I've received from individuals on here who have helped me in locating the headstones of relatives outside my province (and who turned them over to my care without even being asked).

I do my utmost best to fully document each memorial in the Jewish cemeteries, including attempting to connect family members which often includes doing research as well as translating the stones to the best of my ability. If you happen to find an error in translation, please do let me know so I can fix it. Please do not remove what I have already translated, either fix only the error or simply send me a message and let me know where the error is and I will fix it. We are all human and sometimes we make mistakes. Please do not be rude.

Please feel free to add any headstone photos I've taken to your own tree. You don't need my permission. No one owns copyright over your loved ones. I choose to volunteer my time to ensure fully accurate memorials. I do this for others who are searching for family. You do not need my permission to copy any information in any memorials I've added (or anyone else's). If you want to use one of my photos for commercial purposes, please contact me.
