Due to a work relocation, I found myself in the South. On a whim, I stopped at a nearby cemetery to fulfill any photo requests. I never expected what I would find--

The cemetery was 90-something % photographed. What I thought were "random" missing memorials, had just one thing in common - their race.

The plot location is added exactly as it is written on City of Durham Cemetery Records. For some reason, African American Veterans in particular, are missing on City records. It is my hope and vision that the Find A Grave site and volunteers will use their collective efforts to correct this.

Find A Grave is a collaborative site, and I appreciate all the work done before me, and that is continuing to be done. Every human, EVERY VETERAN deserves to be remembered and respected.

I am a retired investigator that has turned my past career into my current hobby. I used to make a living finding people who did not want to be found. I am now using some of those same skills to research and accurately report on passed loved ones.

I am an adopted child. The experience of finding information and research about my birth family was extremely difficult and frustrating - especially when the information available was not reliable.

This is why I believe that the accuracy of memorials is critical.

I encourage the submission of edits to my memorials. If you see something that is not accurate, please submit a request to edit.

And if you are family and would like to take over the management of a memorial, please go through the Request procedure through Find A Grave. The memorials I manage are not "mine". If you would like a memorial transferred to you, I am happy to honor those requests as quickly as possible.
