I served with the US Army's 4th Infantry Division, operating in the Central Highlands, during the Vietnam war. When I arrived in Vietnam in March 1968 the war was raging. I soon found out that there were no front lines in this war - it was everywhere. There were more than 500,000 Americans in Vietnam during 1968, and 16,592 were killed that year-or roughly averaged: more than 300 every week. We fought against the North Vietnamese Army (NVA) and the Viet Cong (VC), and they were heavily supported by China and the USSR-Russia.
