Beginning of May 2026 Health Update:

My health problems still persist and continue to worsen. From my gut infections of 2023, the neck/shoulder injury in February 2024, and tinnitus developing in Dec 2024; now I've injured my spine further (the sacrum area) in February of 2026.

I'm still a fulltime caregiver for my parents - my Dad being added to that, as he's filling for SS and disability. My Mom's health is about the same, but Dad being added to my "weight load" has definitely put a lot more on my plate. We also have nine cats (yes, I know, crazy cat lady.)

Please, please, I ask of you to be kind, understanding, and patient with this small town local historian.

I have decided to 'close' Genealogy by Brecca, although my cemetery group remains open and active. It's 'Henderson KY Cemetery Research Group' on Facebook. I do have a few retainer clients for genealogy, and a few I'm still actively working on things for despite my health woes.

I unfortunately don't have the same amount of time to devote to Find-a-Grave that I had years ago when I began. I still am active here and try my best to keep up with e-mails, but sometimes I'm getting 100+ in a single day. (Which is absolutely impossible to go through each and every one of them thoroughly.)

When I am able to do a lot of Find-a-Grave work, I've been tending to the smaller family cemeteries out in the county (especially the ones that I have family buried in.) I've been researching the occupants and finding obituaries or neat articles about their life to add to their memorials. I've done this with the Gibson Cemeteries, Moss Cemeteries, and others.

My name is Brecca Mefford. I'm 33 years old and I've been doing genealogy since I was 7 years old (2000). I have about 152,000 people in my Ancestry tree and it's growing every day. My Mefford's are from Muhlenberg County, Ky (and surrounding areas), but my Mother is a Blanford from here in Henderson County. My direct lines here in Henderson are Blanford, LaRue, Sandefur, Thompson, Gibson, Nally, Byrd, and more.

I really do have to credit the Gibson Cemetery (in Corydon, KY) with being the creation of my obsession with small family cemeteries. I've been infatuated with it ever since I first visited in the end of 2000.
