When possible, take good quality photos. Don't crop so closely that you can't tell if it's on a wall or in the ground. If it's an upright marker, bend down a little and include what is behind it. It really makes a better picture. Try to photograph the surrounding area, especially if it will help the family find the marker in the future. By the way, it's okay to gently brush off leaves.

Please don't criticize any member who has created thousands and thousands of memorials—that took time. You found someone on Find a Grave (or Ancestry) because a volunteer(s) created a memorial from an obituary, an online source, or walked a cemetery.

Walking a cemetery and creating memorials from their photos is hard work (and tough on the back).

One day it won't matter how many memorials we manage on Find a Grave, when the time comes our name will be added to this site, and the memorials we manage will be managed by someone else.

I WELCOME all edit requests. Thank you to those of you who submit edit requests. Your time and effort is truly appreciated. I try to provide an explanation when I decline an edit request, it just seems like the respectful thing to do.

• GREAT NEWS! Bios are now searchable!
• I follow Find-a-Grave's guidelines regarding the transfer of memorials. You must state how you are related for EACH TRANSFER REQUEST. I do not transfer based on whether they are in 'your family line' we ALL have a family line.
• Per Find a Grave, it's okay to add all spouses in the last name field. This really helps prevent duplicates. (I know!)
• Former surnames do not belong in the maiden or middle name fields. It's misleading and inaccurate.
• Alternate spellings are to be entered in the bio, NOT in one of the name fields.
• When you post a group family photo please include who is in the photo. YOU may know, but when you're gone others may not, so let's not leave people guessing.
• Did you upload a newspaper clipping? Don't forget to include in the caption the name of the newspaper, location and date of the article.
