February 8, 2026 I mourn the death of a beloved cemetery "finder". Christine MacWilliams.  She has battled cancer for the past three years. Christine was the founder member of the North Smithfield Heritage Assn Cemetery Team. She started clearing trees and undergrowth from the Hotchkiss Cemetery on Smithfield Road in August 2017. The team quickly grew and expanded its scope to include all 65 of the historical cemeteries in North Smithfield. Chistine also cleaned several abandoned historical cemeteries in Woonsocket. She has been a member of the RI Historical Cemetery Commission for the past 4 years, during which time she helped organise the Annual RI Historical Cemetery Awareness Day.  God has an angel. We will miss you.

My name is Gail and I have always been fascinated by old cemeteries and the paranormal. {Ghosts don't scare me, people do!} I love giving Cemetery tours! I lived my whole life behind a huge cemetery. Many times a week I would walk among the 200 year old markers at Union Cemetery, Old Aldrich grounds and the Old Bank Cemetery and feel that they all had a story to tell. Many, many children died in their early age and it's too bad that many markers were just unnamed stones or they didn't have markers. When I do find a grave without a monument, I will place flowers and photograph the plot where they are buried.

Be aware that the newspaper copyright expires 75 years after publishing. From then on, newspaper articles are considered in the public domain. in 2024, any obituary published before 1947 can be duplicated without copyright infringement. All others will be transcribed. Please do NOT transcribe living relatives &**(per FAG rules)
