So...2025 onward...not going to be "in the field" hardly ever anymore. Not by choice. I don't drive. I have a mobility disability. My husband, who was also my driver, helper and a cemetery enthusiast, died in February 2025. From August 2014 until our last graving trip in November 2024, he was the ONLY reason I was able to keep doing what I love. Now he's gone and so are the trips I loved so much. Not to say I will never go out again, but those trips will be very few and far between and will no longer result in 100s of memorials at a time. Am I bitter about losing the outings I love so much, that brought me happiness and intellectual stimulation and stress relief and exercise? Oh you better believe it - I am young enough I had another 20+ years to do this. Is there anything I can do about it? Nope. I use two sticks to walk, can't get up on my own or step over a stick on the ground. I've been known to fall down on occasion. It's not safe for me to be out there alone. But the offer still stands - in the area? Do I know who you are? Want some company? Is it sunny, dry and not super hot out? Hit me up.

That said, my brain is not broken, luckily, so I will continue to be active daily on here. Keep those edits coming!

I hate to have to add this but the past few years there has been a noticeable uptick in folks who are rude and entitled and call names. If you are one of those folks it reflects poorly on you, not me. Try some kindness. I think you'll find it in return.

INFO/CORRECTIONS

Use the edit tab on the upper right hand corner of the memorial in question. Vermont and New England have a lot of vital records online for free. Please use them.

A BIRTH record is a record of a BIRTH

A MARRIAGE record is a record of a MARRIAGE

A DEATH record is a record of a DEATH

And in Vermont, a cemetery transcription card circa 1919-21 is NOT a death record. It is a cemetery transcription only. They have been mixed in with death records for some reason and people not understanding they are not a death record has caused numerous headaches.

Please know the definition of ANCESTOR and DESCENDANT (hint: they aren't your 3rd cousin 5 times removed) and learn what a CENOTAPH is and how to deal with it. Do not ever merge them. [Note - I am SHOCKED by the not insignificant # of declined edits I get from folks who will not move their obvious cenotaphs into cemeteries. Or cremated folks. When there's a photo of a gravestone! How can you call yourself a genealogist or graver when you don't understand basic definitions or concepts?? The mind boggles.]

I will decline links to BURIAL UNKNOWNS. Ditto birth date calculations. The world will not end if a date field is blank.

I am not one of those contributors who just blindly hits accept or lets edits go for 21 days. If I decline something, let me know why it is right. I spend more of my time doing edits vs. making memorials, often hours a day, trying to verify edits, as I continue to get incorrect and/or incomplete information every day. I am always more than willing and able to let you know my source(s) when asked.

The more "not buried in a cemetery" memorials you have the less seriously I take the accuracy of your edits. Ditto an overabundance of cremations - NO ONE knows of 1000s of cremated people. And if your BU's are now covered in grave photos by others but still floating around out there, it tells me you never go back to check and update your memorials. Sorry, but the lack of seriousness and care by some is frustrating.

Not everyone can afford pay sites. I'm one of them.

No need to ask. Just credit. Do not post my photos to other memorials on the site. I will have those removed. And do not use any to make you money. Unless of course you plan to share :)

VERMONT DEATH CERTIFICATES

Those adding memorials based on Vermont death certificates...under final disposition please makes sure it specifies "burial". If it says "vault", "storage", "entombment", you can not know for sure if that is the cemetery where the person ultimately ends up. Many cemeteries do not have any or adequate storage for the winter and people are temporarily stored until spring.
