Many of us volunteers work diligently, so be courteous. Negativity is unwarranted and I report to Findagrave Administrator all nasty or harassing messages in an attempt to cease poor criticism!!

Do Not recopy ANY of my grave marker photos and place it onto another Findagrave memorial. You do not have my permission to reuse my photo onto a Findgrave memorial. I do not have a problem if you post my grave marker photos on your Ancestry.com tree for personal use, just DO NOT recopy here on Findagrave.com.

How can I ask permission to use a photo?

Photos on Find a Grave are submitted by contributors. Contact the contributor directly to request permission to use the photo. Their Profile name is found under the photo submitted. 

When adding a photo to a memorial choose the type of photo by using the "Button" marking Grave, Person, Family or Other.

I heavily contribute time and effort towards the Find a Grave initiative for researchers.

As a manager/creator of a memorial, I format edits/bios to display as I choose to show them correctly. The manager is responsible for decisions made about memorials.

On Oct 6, 2025, I received this response from Find a Grave Administrator:

"We allow managers to manage the memorial page. This manager may have other source documentation with differing information, or there may be differing information in the historical record. We also want to ensure that we respect the decisions managers make regarding the memorials they manage. We generally do not get involved in disputes about information."

NOTE: If I have added additional information on a memorial, my source is generally from: obituaries; Ancestry.com; burial transit permits in cemetery files; death certificates; etc ~~ so, please, do not ask me where my source is from ~~ I will not be able to recall where the origin of source. I often post documents for purposes of validation. Edit requests may alter information.

It is important to include obituaries.

It includes pertinent information of the persons life; ie: their family; their military life; marriages; where they lived, worked and how they lived.

If you have ever done family tree research, you definitely know how very important this bit of information is!!

You can add photos and suggest corrections without managing a memorial.

A transfer of a memorial is not necessary.

When you ask for a transfer please understand what all a volunteer does. I have gone to cemeteries with the intent to photograph all above ground existing grave markers ~~ row by row, in the sweltering heat; attempt to clear off a marker for a better picture.

When asked to transfer a memorial, this is devastating and very frustrating !! after all the hard work to prepare and link information for these memorials.

And it is not just numbers for us, it is so other people can see the finale resting place for their love ones. Instead of asking for transfers, Findagrave.com has created a "Virtual Cemetery" tab/tool on your profile page. This is for your very own family memorials to be kept upon your profile page for your individual quick and easy reference.

In April, 2023, Findagrave.com began the option for the "button" for Veteran's. Majority of my memorials are before this 2023 option.

MILITARY RANKS FOR VETERANS:

The Dept. of Defense rules are that a person can only use a military title if they meet one of the following parameters:

1) Passed away in combat while serving their county

2) Retired after 20 or more years of military service

3) Passed away while active in the military.

If they served at any time, they can have a headstone, and the rank is listed below the name, not as part of their name, unless they meet one of those qualifications. So if you add an edit for a military rank to be added to a name, please make sure the above rules are met.
